For some time now, Ford has been showing selected history-inspired examples of its slow-moving GT supercar, and they are all super attractive and generally desirable. Now, according to a statement released Wednesday, they are doing so again in honor of Alan Mann Racing, which will make its debut at the Chicago Motor Show.
For those who are not hopelessly obsessed with retro motorsports, Alan Mann Racing was a British racing company that eventually became a team backed by the Ford factory. For the efforts of Ford Le Mans from 1965 and 1966, Alan Mann and his team created special lightweight bodies for the GT40 race car. These prototypes did not win anything, but they looked great and inspired some changes in the later GT40, which took the overall victory in Le Mans. Alan Mann Racing also built Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, which is definitely a joy.
This Ford GT tribute takes on Mann’s classic red and gold color and adds a few modern touches, such as exposed carbon fiber and matte Frozen White accents, to create an overall beautiful package.
The Ford GT still has its 647-horsepower EcoBoost V6 and its all-carbon body with radical aerodynamics. Plus, it still has its complicated suspension and high price, and we’ll be sad when Ford finally sends it off forever. Until then, however, we will be happy to continue to shamelessly watch these cars from the special edition of the heritage.
