Twitter Blue has finally started renting out Android subscribers customize the app’s navigation bar. Previously only available on iOS, the feature lets you get rid of the Spaces icon that’s stuck out in the middle of your navigation bar (and, of course, remove some of the other tabs if you want too).
With custom navigation, you can reduce the number of tabs shown to two, or keep all five displayed by default – handy if you’re tired of swiping on the Spaces tab just to get to your DMs and notifications. Twitter first started testing the Spaces tab on iOS last year and released the Android tab in Maywhich only seems to give more inconvenient users a reason to sign up for the $2.99/month Blue subscription launched last year.
But Blue can’t save us from every feature that clutters the app. Twitter announced last week that it will begin to include more information in the banner that displays active spaces at the top of your timeline. While there is not yet a setting to completely turn off this banner (neither for free nor blue subscribers), it will now show who is hosting the space, who is tweeting in the space, and relevant topics.
