The best Cyber Monday deals on Bluetooth speakers
Anchor
Anker’s original Soundcore Motion Boom speaker came out in 2021 and was well priced (retailing for $75). But the new-for-2022 Motion Boom Plus is vastly improved, especially in terms of sound quality. This is easily one of the best new Bluetooth speakers of 2022, and $125 is the lowest price we’ve seen for it.
Weighing in at 5.29 pounds (almost a pound more than the Motion Boom), it uses Bluetooth 5.3 and is equipped with upgraded dual 3.5-inch speakers and newly added dual 1-inch speakers providing up to 80 watts of audio output (60 W for the woofers and 20W for the tweeters). Battery life is rated at 20 hours at moderate volume levels. It’s also IP67 waterproof and dustproof, and it floats if you accidentally drop it in a body of water.
I was impressed with the sound quality, which compares well with several more expensive — and some larger — speakers. You can adjust the sound profile (with EQ settings) and upgrade the speaker’s firmware in Anker’s companion Soundcore app for iOS and Android.

The rugged design of the JBL Go 3, combined with surprisingly decent sound for its small size, makes it one of the best micro Bluetooth speakers out there.
Available in multiple color options, it has an IP67 waterproof rating, meaning it can be submerged in water and is dustproof. Battery life is rated at up to 5 hours.

If you don’t want to spend the extra money on the newer Soundcore Motion Boom Plus (see above), the original Soundcore Motion Boom remains a good option for less money. It’s a bit lighter than the Motion Boom Plus and its sound isn’t as detailed or the speaker doesn’t play as loud, but for the price it delivers very good sound, especially compared to more compact speakers like the JBL Charge 5, which costs more.

For their first three generations, JBL’s Clip micro Bluetooth speakers have a circular design. But for the fourth-generation Clip 4, JBL moved to a more oval shape, slightly enlarged the speaker and added USB-C charging. It looks more durable, with a stronger integrated carabiner “clamp”. It also sounds a bit better, with more volume, cleaner sound and more bass. With a waterproof rating of IP67, it is completely waterproof and also dustproof. It is one of the best wireless Bluetooth speakers because of its small speaker size.

Tribit is known for its affordable smaller Bluetooth speakers that provide very good sound quality and features for the price. Its new Stormbox Blast speaker is the first Bluetooth boombox speaker and delivers mostly impressive sound for its size, and also has a built-in light show and USB charging.
Weighing in at 12 pounds (5.45 kg) with two 30-watt midrange drivers and two 15W tweeters, it’s basically twice the weight of Anker’s Motion Boom Plus (see above) and pumps out more sound and bass compared to this speaker, but it lacks a bit of clarity. Also, the midrange—where the vocals live—is a bit recessed at its default XBass setting (I preferred the Music EQ setting in the companion app, which is a bit more balanced). The speaker firmware is upgradeable, and you can pair two Stormbox Blasts to create a stereo pair, which will greatly improve the sound.
Battery life is very good. It’s rated for up to 30 hours at moderate volume levels. And the speaker has an IPX7 rating, which means it’s completely waterproof. Again, like the Soundcore by Anker Motion Boom Plus, the Tribit Stormbox Blast is a good value that measures up sound-wise against the more expensive JBL boom box speakers, which undeniably offer superior style. While the list price is $260, the speaker normally retails for $180 to $200. But $160 is the lowest price we’ve seen so far.

Tribit now makes an improved version of the StormBox Micro from 2020, called the StormBox Micro 2, which offers improved sound with more bass and overall volume. But the original is still a good mini bluetooth speaker and it sells for a good price (usually sells for around $50).

With each new version of the Flip, JBL makes small improvements, and while the latest model, the Flip 6, doesn’t look much different from the Flip 5 on the outside, it does offer improved sound. It has two-way drivers with a woofer and tweeter and dual passive radiators that help the Flip 6 deliver much deeper bass than you think it can.
It is fully waterproof and dustproof with an IPX67 rating. Like the Flip 5, it’s rated for up to 12 hours of audio playback at moderate volume levels and charges via USB-C. Available in multiple color options, this is one of the best sounding speakers for its compact size.
Tribitt
Over the past few years, Tribit has made several Bluetooth speakers that deliver a lot of bang for the buck. Add the new XSound Mega to the list.
Tribit pitches the XSound Mega as more of an outdoor speaker — a cord is included to carry it like a sort of mini boombox — but it works well indoors. There’s an LED light show you can turn on or off, and there are three EQ settings for sound: XBass, Music, and Audiobook. It can also be used as a power bank to charge your mobile devices.
In my tests, the speaker compared quite favorably to more expensive speakers like the JBL Charge 5. There’s plenty of bass, and the speaker plays loud for its size, with decent clarity. However, it’s a mono speaker with one driver and two bass radiators — that’s how you get all that bass. So while you can expect big sound, the soundstage doesn’t feel as wide, especially at lower volumes. It actually sounds better at higher volumes.

We liked Ultimate Ears’ Wonderboom 2, and the third-generation model, the Wonderboom 3, offers some minor improvements, including slightly better battery life (up to 14 hours instead of 13, at moderate volume levels) and a new Bluetooth chip that allows for extended wireless range of over 130 feet (40 meters). The design has not changed, although the speaker is now available in different color options.
Like its predecessor, the Wonderboom 3 has a list price of $100, but sometimes sells for a little less. Its IP67 rating means it’s not only waterproof, but also dustproof (and it can float).
This model retains the special Outdoor Boost mode that boosts the treble, and you can link two together (or pair Wonderboom 3 to Wonderboom 2) to create a stereo sound pairing by simply pressing a button on each speaker. As far as I can tell, the Wonderboom 3 sounds very similar to the Wonderboom 2 and packs a lot of sound for its small size. However, while there’s a bit of punch to the bass (being low but squat helps it produce more low end), it can only deliver so much punch.
Alas, Logitech-owned Ultimate Ears hasn’t upgraded the charging port to USB-C. The speaker still charges with a Micro-USB cable, which is a bit of a bummer.

With the arrival of JBL’s Boombox 3 ($500), you can now pick up the Boombox 2 at a good discount. And while the Boombox 3 sounds better, thanks to a new three-driver system (the new speaker sounds clearer and more detailed), the Boombox 2 is still a powerful portable boombox that can pump out powerful bass and is fully waterproof.

Back in 2020, Tribit released the StormBox Micro, a budget version of Bose’s excellent SoundLink Micro speaker that delivers surprisingly good sound for its size and modest price. Now we get the StormBox Micro 2, which offers improved sound and battery life, along with a charging feature that turns the speaker into a power bank for mobile devices like smartphones and tablets. An integrated strap allows you to attach it to your backpack or bike handlebars.
Like the original, it’s excellent value and easy to recommend if you’re looking for a super compact portable wireless speaker. It was selling for around $60, but now it’s down to an all-time low (with a clippable coupon), bringing the price down to just $48.
