Bang & Olufsen describes its new noise reduction Beoplay EX headphones as with a new “shape”. And yes, their shape is new for Bang & Olufsen headphones, but not so new for the rest of us who have seen many headphones with handles like those of AirPods and AirPods Pro. However, Bang & Olufsen Beoplay says its “new shape in headphone design” creates room for larger 9.2mm speaker drivers that help deliver “unsurpassed sound quality”. Beoplay EX will be available on May 5 for $ 399 (£ 349, AU $ 650) in Anthracite Oxygen (graphite color with bluish headphone accents), followed by Gold Tone and then Black Anthracite colors in late May and June, respectively.
I have not tried Beoplay EX yet, but whether the implementation of the earlier Beoplay EQ buds is a sign, these pimples should sound pretty impressive (better for $ 399, right?). They also need to work better to make voice calls, with three microphones in each handset and “improved call quality,” according to Bang & Olufsen. There is no question of whether the noise reduction has been improved, but the noise reduction of the Beoplay EQ headphones is good.
Battery life is estimated at 6 hours at moderate volume levels with noise reduction and an additional 14 hours of juice in the polished aluminum charging box. The buds have a degree of water resistance IP57, which makes them waterproof and dustproof. They also feature Bluetooth 5.2 and multipoint Bluetooth pairing, so you can connect to two devices at once, such as a computer and a smartphone.
I dug a little into the specs and they have wireless charging and support AAC and AptX Adaptive audio codecs (mostly Android devices support AptX Adaptive). As soon as I get a sample for review, I’ll let you know how they compare to AirPods Pro and other premium headphones like PI7 by Bowers & Wilkinswhich also retails for $ 399, and Sony WF-1000XM4 ($ 279).
