John Oliver returned from a pause with an in-depth look at a problem that is driving madness in right-wing media circles: critical racial theory.
However, as Oliver pointed out, many of those who are most vehemently opposed also admit that they have no idea what it is.
“I never understood what a critical theory of race is, to be honest,” Fox News presenter Tucker Carlson admitted in November, but then continued to complain about it in a video Oliver released.
“Wow,” Oliver said. “I don’t know if I’ve ever seen a person confidently complain about something just seconds after admitting he knows nothing about it.”
Senator Ted Cruz (R-Tex.) Called the critical racial theory “everyone as racist as clan members in white sheets.”
This prompted Oliver to utter a rhyme similar to Dr. Seuss’s, no doubt because Cruz was once wasting his time reading aloud “Green Eggs and Ham” on the Senate floor.
“I do not like this man of Ted Cruz
i don’t like screaming “clan”
I don’t like him in a room
I don’t like it in Cancun
I don’t like playing with a ball
I don’t like his face at all
I want to lose my cozy job
This guy Ted Cruz is a fucking button.
Oliver then spent almost half an hour trying to break the noise to get to the bottom of the debate over critical race theory – and why the right is really outraged:
