If there’s one thing 3D printers are good at, it’s creating silly objects that reflect the latest fashions. Take action Wordle. A user of Prusa Printers, a repository of 3D models, has embraced the social aspect of the hit online word game and transported it to the physical world with the help of a 3D printer. If you download the kriswillcode model and print the necessary pieces, you can put your result on a strap and wear it for all to see.
Just in case you’ve been avoiding social media for the past few months, it’s become a social event to post your daily Wordle score on Twitter or Facebook. My timelines, like the world’s, are full of friends who tweet about how hard or easy they found the word of the day, while ensuring that they don’t spoil it for anyone else.
You can easily print this thing in any material you have on hand, but if you want it to be accurate, some yellow, green and black threads would be best. The two main parts – the front and the back – will be printed flat on the building board and you only need one of each. But you will need to print a collection of cubes if you want to display your exact result in Wordle.
The designer offers 15 cubes of each color to give you abundance, even if you have a bad day and do not understand the word to the last guess. After placing the cubes – in reverse order, as they go behind – you can slide the back plate in place to keep it secure. Once you have assembled everything, hang it on your belt and you are ready to go.

An alternative to this multi-part model may appear soon after Twitter user and software developer Vicki Soma created a clever piece of code that outputs the Wordle result to an STL file. STL is the type of file you need to print something 3D, which makes it easy to quickly place it on your 3D printer. This second model is designed to allow you to stop printing and change the color so that you can print the different cubes needed to show your result. Vicky has not yet published the code, but is working on it.
Now what The New York Times bought Wordle, we can expect it to exist for a long time. Having a physical representation of your time while playing the game can be good for future generations to see that even small things can capture the imagination in a big way. Besides, isn’t it nice to show up a little sometimes?
