The best current VR headseton Mission 2gets a price drop to $299 on June 4th. But its replacement, the Mission 3arrives in the fall.
Meta announced the news this morning along with details on the company’s upcoming upgraded Quest 3 VR headset, which will start at $499 and feature a smaller size, faster processor, improved controllers and added color cameras that could add better mixed reality experience to VR games and apps.
The new price of $299 is for the 128GB storage version, while the 256GB storage option gets a price cut to $349.
All indications are that Quest 3 will be worth the wait, but Meta also announced an interesting performance update coming to Quest 2 and Quest Pro. It promises to add up to 26% CPU speed improvement and 19% GPU improvement to the Quest 2 and 11% improvement to the Quest Pro. Quest 2 already has a lot great games and appsall of which are expected to work on Quest 3 as well.
It’s surprising that the Meta would find a way to unlock more performance from the Quest 2 this late in its lifecycle, but the Meta has had Quest 2 updates in the past that improved a number of hardware and software features.
