A new trailer is out for NetflixThe Playlist, a fictional drama series for Spotify. The six-episode series, which hits the streaming service on October 13, deals with “the Swedish startup that shook up the entire music industry and became one of the leading music services in the world,” according to Netflix.
Here’s the minute-long trailer that features Flo Rida’s song Good Feeling. Fragmentary voices express disapproval, call something impossible and say that music cannot be free.
Swedish actor Edwin Endre plays young tech entrepreneur Daniel Ek, now known as the super-rich co-founder and CEO of Spotify. The series also stars Ulf Stenberg as Per Sundin, Gizem Erdoğan as Petra Hanson, Joel Lutzow as Andreas En, Christian Hilborg as Martin Lorenz and Janice Kamya Cavander as Bobby T.
The Playlist is the latest true story about startups and founders to be adapted into a drama series, after WeCrashed retold the WeWork drama, Super Pumped went behind the scenes at Uber, and The Dropout won an Emmy for Amanda Seyfried’s performance in jailed Theranos founder Elizabeth Holmes. After these lurid antics, international music licensing negotiations don’t seem so sensational – but then again, did you have any idea of the drama on Facebook before The Social Network came out? The series is inspired by the book Spotify Untold by Sven Carlsson and Jonas Lejonhoofvud, which chronicles the real-life relationship between the fledgling Spotify and vocal adversaries including Steve Jobs and Taylor Swift.
